Stakeholders convene for 3rd regional workshop in Pays de la Loire on sustainable agriculture
A collaborative effort to advance sustainable agricultural practices saw the convergence of 11 individuals including 7 stakeholders and 3 representatives from the Chamber of Agriculture of Pays de la Loire. The stakeholders, representing diverse sectors of the BBF (Biomass-Based Fertilizers) value chain, convened building upon previous engagements in October 2021 and June 2022.
Discussions were robust and insightful, paving the way for strategic collaborations and future engagements. Participants highlighted the importance of expanding the stakeholder base to include entities such as the Technical Institute of Organic Agriculture (ITAB), the National Institute of Food Origins (INAO), and the Regional Direction of Environment and Land Management (DREAL), emphasizing the need for diverse perspectives to assess technical feasibility and legislative considerations.
The workshop commenced with a warm welcome and a round table session, allowing participants to introduce themselves and their roles within the BBF value chain. An update on the RUSTICA project provided insights into technological developments, including pilot plant initiatives and the formulation of fertiliser mixtures, setting the stage for informed discussions.
Legislative frameworks governing BBF production and usage were explored, with stakeholders actively engaging in discussions and providing valuable feedback. A business model check exercise facilitated collaborative assessments of stress factors influencing the regional business model, fostering a deeper understanding of potential challenges and opportunities.
The workshop concluded with discussions on policy briefs, underscoring the importance of policy interventions in promoting sustainable agriculture. Stakeholders participated in an evaluation survey, providing valuable feedback to refine future workshops and initiatives.
Finally, a visit to an Urban Agriculture Demonstrator has been organised to provide participants with insights into upcoming trials and exhibitions, fostering dialogue on innovative approaches to urban agriculture.
