WP5 will evaluate the technology potential on the fruit and vegetable waste streams produced in the 5 RUSTICA regions and quantify the potential product outcome when applying the circular technologies.
WP5 will focus on the technical part of the project. The partners involved will have varying degree of tasks and responsibilities. For example, Organic Waste Systems NV will optimise the process parameters in a carboxylic acid platforms to maximise the nutrient recovery. Entomo AgroIndustrial will validate at least 15 substrates from 5 regions and test them on 5 different insect species which are dubia roach (Blaptica dubia), Black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens), Yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor), Lesser mealworm (Alphitobius diaperinus), and house cricket (Acheta domesticus). The purpose of this process is to check their nutrient efficiency and production capacity. The Netherland’s Organisation of Applied Scientific Research will make at least 5, up to 12, different biochars at lab scale of the various agro-residues available in the 5 RUSTICA regions.
